Where Is Morne Harmse aka Samurai Killer Today? Update Now 2022 After Getting Released On Parole

After serving his minimum jail time, Samurai killer Morne Harmse got released on parole. He was convicted of one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

A highly horrific murder occurred in 2008, and the case was widely publicized when the victim pled guilty a year later.

He was charged with murdering a teenager and attempting to murder three other individuals.


Where Is Morne Harmse Samurai Killer Today? 

Morne Harmse Samurai, a South African, has been released on parole.

He was born in 1989 and was imprisoned in 2009. He was released after completing 14 years of his sentence.

He has been diagnosed with a mental illness, but Correctional Services has determined that he is not a risk to society.

According to Nxumalo, he was freed under tight parole restrictions on March 3, 2022.

Correctional Services has kept the parole requirement private. They have said he would be monitored, and if found to be not complying with the term of his placement, the department can revoke his parole.

Morne Harmse Release Date and Charges

Morne Harmse's sentence, according to Correctional Services Department spokeswoman Singabakho Nxumalo, is set to end on March 9, 2029.

Morne Harmse killed an innocent teenager, Jacques Pretorius, in 2008 with katana, which is a Japanese sword. The victim was a student, Nic Diederichs Technical High School, and was just 16 years old.

Morne not only killed him but was attempted to kill three other pupils from the same school and was behind bars for three counts of attempted murder along with first-degree murder.

The reason behind the homicide has not been revealed, but he completed his minimum time in jail on June 9, 2019. Even though he had to be out of jail only on March 9, 2029, he got his parole beforehand and got out in 2022 itself.

Before getting the release date, he had to appear in front of the Zonderwater Management Area Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) eight times in total.

Morne Harmse Parents

Morne Harmse was born to Machiel and Liza Harmse. The crime he committed devastated his parents. Liza, his mother, then stated that her son was not a hardened criminal.

She said, "He was always a caring young man. People are continuously telling us how wonderful our kid is and how much he has benefited others." Normally, being a parent in such a scenario may be challenging.

Harmse also assessed the mental condition and mental status at the time, which may have revealed that he was normal. He was claimed to have been diagnosed with a major mental disorder at the time.
