The actress announced her departure from the soap in August 2021, yet she returned for a few appearances in the following months. However, it was reported in April 2022 that the character would be recast with actress Allison Lanier.

Hunter King's character Summer is currently highly vulnerable, according to the soap opera's current storyline. Kyle's baby turmoil with Tara is the reason for this. With Kyle, summer's uncertainties about her future continue to play perfectly into Sally and Ashland's hands. Because Summer only wants the best for Kyle, she may depart the program. According to fans, summer may break up with Kyle after learning that he is Harrison's father.

Summer Newman was born in 2006 and was played by a series of twins until Samantha Bailey, a child actress, took over in June 2009. Summer was diagnosed with another episode of SORAS in June 2012, when Lindsay Bushman began portraying her as an adolescent.

Hunter King had stepped into Summer's shoes by October of that year and had continued to play her on and off for years. Except for a few episodes in 2018 when Bayley Corman stepped in when King was unable due to other obligations.

Hunter King's current whereabouts are unknown, but the Young & Restless actress teased her return to filming by sharing photographs from behind the scenes of the shoot.

The Young and the Restless is looking for a new actress to play Summer Newman, who was last seen on the show as Hunter King. The CBS soap is rumored to be offering the part of Nick and Phyllis' daughter a three-year deal.

According to Soap Opera Spy, King's contract is set to expire this fall, and the actress could be on her way out shortly.

However, neither King nor CBS has commented on the character's future on the program as of June 2021.

In April 2021, King spoke with TV Source Magazine about her time on the show and her plans. While discussing her aspirations for further moments between Ashland and Summer, the actress speaks about the character as though she had more ideas for her.
