Who Are Walter Rainey And Sarah Yeager? Alabama Church Shooting Victims Identified

The two victims that died in the attack were Walter Rainey and Sarah Yeager.

As per the police report, Walter was 84 years old, and Sarah was 75. Other details about their family, on the other hand, are still a mystery.

The following is a statement given by Vestavia Hills Mayor Ashley Curry on Thursday night: In spite of the tragic news that has emerged this evening, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the victims of the shooting at the Church.

He also added I would like to thank the first responders from all agencies who have worked tirelessly since the incident began on behalf of myself and our community.

According to Ware, during a buffet dinner attended by other church members, the man allegedly pulled out a gun and started the fire.

The suspect, a 71-year-old white male, is described as an occasional attendee of the church" who pulled a handgun and began shooting, striking three people. There is no ongoing threat to the community because the suspect acted alone.

Walter Rainey, an 84-year-old Irondale man, died at the scene, according to police. Sarah Yeager, a 75-year-old Pelham woman, died at UAB Hospital. The gunshot injured an 84-year-old Hoover woman who is still in the hospital.

Ware also mentioned police were called at 6:22 p.m., and someone at the gathering "subdued the main suspect and held him down until law enforcement arrived."

The motive for the shootings was not provided by Ware. He also refused to name the culprit, who was arrested at the Church by police. He added the man's identity would be kept hidden until prosecutors filed official charges of capital murder against him.

The suspect was taken into jail at the Vestavia Hills Police Department early Friday morning, and warrants charging him with capital murder were likely to be filed later that day, according to Ware.

According to Ware, investigators believe the suspect acted alone and are trying to figure out why.

Authorities said Friday that a 71-year-old man who shot two senior citizens and injured another at an Alabama church group meeting Thursday evening was controlled by another attendee until police arrived.
