Shalom Brune-Franklin parents are Ingrid Brune and Phillip Franklin. Her mother Ingrid Brune is Mauritian and father Philip Franklin is Thai-born.

Brune-Franklin is a well-known English-Australian actress who came to public notice after portraying Private Maisie Richards in the BBC series Our Girl, created by Tony Grounds.

She is also notable for playing Aoife in Tony McNamara's Australian drama Doctor Doctor and Umm Khulthum in Peter Kosminsky's four-part British television drama serial The State. 

According to her IMDb bio, she made her debut portraying Jennifer in the 2013 short drama Dinner Date, directed by Kaleb McKenna. 

Most recently, she will be seen playing Estella in Hulu's Great Expectations starring Olivia Coleman.

Shalom Brune-Franklin parents are father Ingrid Brune and mother Phillip Franklin. She spent the early years of her life in St Albans.

Her mom is Mauritian and her father is Thai-born English, making her of mixed heritage. Growing up, she was a sporty teen interested in training for the 800 meters in the London 2012 Olympics.

But her family decided to move to Mullaloo, a northern coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia, in hopes of a better lifestyle, taking Shalom and her younger brother.

The star holds both Australian and British citizenship. "Leaving the UK was both exciting and sad," Shalom Brune-Franklin said to 10Magazine.

While she was sad to leave her native, she was excited about her journey ahead.

She and her family then settled in Perth’s northern suburb. The actress soon started honing her crafts and starred in soaps over there, such as portraying Aoife in Doctor Doctor.

There is a lot of work to emigrate to another country and families often find it difficult to settle in a new place and environment.

The actress said, "It took years to feel like any of us could call Australia home."

She also said she is eternally grateful for her parents who worked hard and sacrificed many things to establish the family in a new place they had no connection with. 

Shalom says the initial phase was testing, scary, and difficult. But ultimately, it turned out to be rewarding and the best decision.

Shalom Was Raised In A Small Family

The State star was born and raised in a household of two children. The 28-year-old has a younger brother named Siam.

Upon moving to Australia, Shalom attended the final two days of school before the summer holidays began. "The timing was a little awkward," said the young star.

It was a long summer holiday and she didn't have enough time to make any friends. However, this made her family much closer and she spent the holidays with her sibling. They were each other's only friends that summer.

Living in Perth was such a drastic change and an amazing experience. It was a different climate, with the beach so close, but it took years for the Franklin family to call Australia home.

She studied at Ocean Reef Senior High School and joined drama classes. She even won the school's drama award for high achievement.

She then attended Edith Cowan University in Western Australia.

Later, she learned about the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and pursued acting. She got an audition at the academy and won the most outstanding student that year.

She graduated from WAAPA in 2015 -the same year she appeared as Chocolate Dealer in the short drama Tryptophan, directed by Augustin Lobet.

Talking more, the star also secured the inaugural Chris Edmund Performing Arts Scholarship set up by Hugh Jackman, a WAAPA graduate, we're not surprised the beauty has already cemented her role in the industry.

In 2016, she got a recurring role in the television series Doctor Doctor. She appeared in 11 episodes of the series until 2017. During this time, she played in OtherLife, Swiss Avalanche, and Barracuda.

The Australian Actress Plays Estella In Great Expectations

Shalom Brune-Franklin will appear playing the role of Estella in the upcoming period drama Great Expectations.

Developed by Steven Knight, the drama is based on the novel of the same name written by Charles Dickens. The drama is scheduled to be premiered on March 26, 2023, on BBC One.

Great Expectations tells the story of an orphan, Pip, who longs for a greater lot in life until the evil machinations of the mysterious Miss Havisham show him a darker world of possibilities.

Line of Duty star Brune-Franklin's character in the upcoming BBC adaptation is aloof and enigmatic and later becomes Pip's obsession.

The drama stars Olivia Colman as Miss Havisham, Fionn Whitehead as Pip, Ashley Thomas as Jaggers, Brune-Franklin as Estella, Hayley Squires as Sara, Owen McDonnell as Joe, and Trystan Gravelle as Compeyson.

Oscar and Emmy winner Olivia Colman has hailed her co-stars, Brune-Franklin and Whitehead, as "irritatingly young and beautiful" after working with these stars on the set of the BBC adaptation.

Great Expectations marks Brune-Franklin's first role in a period costume drama. Her other notable acting credits include Thor: Ragnarok, Bad Mothers, Cursed, Roadkill, and War of the Worlds.
