Mitch Rossell Father Roy Rossell
Mitch Rossell father Roy Rossell passed away on January 21, 1998, in Madisonville, Tennessee. He was just 31 years old at the time of his demise.
Roy was killed at the hands of a drunk driver. The singer was just 10 years old when he woke up in the middle of the night only to find out the devastating news of his father's 'death.'
"I just started screaming," recalled the singer during an interview with People. " "It just ripped my heart out," Rossell said quietly.
And while the agony still rests in his heart, he now tries to find comfort in talking about his dad.
In the AGT audition, he explained that he got into music because of his dad, who worked hard to save up and get a guitar for him.
Mitch Rossell dad Roy was 21 when the singer was born. He said his pop was so patient and kind and always treated him with so much respect. "He was the greatest," Rossell said.
"He's literally the model for who I strive to be as a dad. He was incredible," the grieving son continued.
In 2016, the singer decided to tell a bit of his father's story. His son was 6 months old at the time he sat down with fellow songwriter, Dave Turnball, to write the emotional ballad "Son."
After the duo completed writing the song, Rossell was still unsure about letting the song out into the world, until December 16, 2022, when he finally gathered the courage to release the song.
Nevertheless, Rossell remains uncertain if he will ever be able to perform the song without a trace of lingering anguish.
Rossell wowed the AGT judges with an emotional audition

The judges were touched by his audition, with Howie Mandel saying, "I predict that tomorrow when the people are watching this on TV tonight, I bet you that's No. 1 downloaded country song."
After the audition aired, the singer took to his IG stories to share that the song had reached No. 5 on the country chart. Soon the song reached No. 1 on the country chart and also in all genres.
