Mitch Rossell AGT father Roy Rossell was 31 years old when he met with an accident. His dad passed away in 1998 in Tennessee.

Rossell, a prolific songwriter and singer, is recently in the limelight for being a contestant in America's Got Talent (AGT) Season 18, which premiered on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

The entire judging panel -Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Heidi Klum- from Season 17 returned with host Terry Crew to ultimately pick the $1 million prize winner.

Rossell is one of the celebrated AGT contestants who tugged at the judges' and audiences' heartstrings with his emotional audition on Tuesday night's episode -June 6.

He performed an original song titled 'Son" in tribute to his late father. And the heart-touching track is now topping the iTunes charts.

So, who is the country singer's dad? What happened to him? Here is everything we know about him.

Mitch Rossell father Roy Rossell passed away on January 21, 1998, in Madisonville, Tennessee. He was just 31 years old at the time of his demise.

Roy was killed at the hands of a drunk driver. The singer was just 10 years old when he woke up in the middle of the night only to find out the devastating news of his father's 'death.'

"I just started screaming," recalled the singer during an interview with People. " "It just ripped my heart out," Rossell said quietly.

And while the agony still rests in his heart, he now tries to find comfort in talking about his dad.

In the AGT audition, he explained that he got into music because of his dad, who worked hard to save up and get a guitar for him.

Mitch Rossell dad Roy was 21 when the singer was born. He said his pop was so patient and kind and always treated him with so much respect. "He was the greatest," Rossell said.

"He's literally the model for who I strive to be as a dad. He was incredible," the grieving son continued.

In 2016, the singer decided to tell a bit of his father's story. His son was 6 months old at the time he sat down with fellow songwriter, Dave Turnball, to write the emotional ballad "Son."

After the duo completed writing the song, Rossell was still unsure about letting the song out into the world, until December 16, 2022, when he finally gathered the courage to release the song.

Nevertheless, Rossell remains uncertain if he will ever be able to perform the song without a trace of lingering anguish.

Rossell wowed the AGT judges with an emotional audition

Mitch delivered a great audition in the second episode of AGT Season 18. His performance made it clear that he loves music as much as he loves his beloved father.

Ahead of the audition, the musical artist revealed that he tragically lost his father, grandfather, and grandmother-in-law in a road accident caused by a drunk driver.

Years have passed, but the singer still harbors an undying grief deep within his heart.

He opted to perform his song "Son," in the AGT audition, in which he reflects on losing his dad and welcoming a son of his own.

The judges were touched by his audition, with Howie Mandel saying, "I predict that tomorrow when the people are watching this on TV tonight, I bet you that's No. 1 downloaded country song."

After the audition aired, the singer took to his IG stories to share that the song had reached No. 5 on the country chart. Soon the song reached No. 1 on the country chart and also in all genres.

Mitch is A Married Man

Mitch Rossell wife Whitney Rossell is a Senior Recruiter at Amerit Consulting. The loving pair exchanged their wedding vows in May 2018.

She joined the company in December 2019 in Nashville, California. Whitney is an accomplished sales and logistics professional with over 10 years of experience in the field.

The recruiter has further extended her horizons in multiple positions, including marketing, invoicing, scheduling, customer service, accounting, and inventory management.

Her LinkedIn bio describes her as a self-starter, a great communicator, detail-oriented, punctual, an excellent organizer, and a multitasker.

The singer regularly shares pictures of his spouse on his socials, expressing his deep gratitude for having her. He never fails to mark special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries.

And yes, the couple is the proud parents of three sons. The father and his sons love spending time together, whether it's at home or out cycling and golfing.

Rossell took to his Instagram on April 9 to share a beautiful picture of his family celebrating "Happy Easter Sunday."

He thanked Jesus for blessing him with such an incredible family and for the love and support he has been receiving from all of his close ones.

Besides having a wife and kids, Rossell has his mother, stepfather, and brother to cheer him up. The family members are often seen spending quality time together.

Mitch Rossell mother, Kelly Evans Whited, lives with her husband, James, in Rising Fawn, Georgia, according to her Facebook bio.

Growing up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Whited went to Tyner High School (Class of 1983) and studied nursing at Chattanooga State Community College.

A proud mother of two, she regularly promotes her son's work via social platforms. Most recently, she shared a post of her son's song topping as #1 song in the country.

Sullivan is happily married to Shelly Sullivan, and the pair shares two daughters -Aria and Millie.
