Dana Marineau Dreamt Of Being A News Anchor
Josh Flagg sister Dana Marineau is a member of the Rakuten Rewards and Advertising team. Dana previously worked for Credit Karma in San Francisco.
Rakuten is one of the world's largest e-commerce companies, with over 3500 merchants, enhancing the way people shop by offering impressive deals, rewards, and cash back.
The real estate agent shares a very close relationship with his sister, with him often talking about his upbringing with her. Remember when Flagg shared Rakuten's Super Bown 2022 commercial on his Twitter account?
He had a sweet yet funny caption on the post saying, "I don't like cats, but I do love my sister @danamarineau Super Bowl spot @Rakuten." Marineau retweeted saying, "Lol love you too little bro @JoshFlagg1."
Sister Dana Marineau
Marineau has been serving as the CMO of Rakuten Rewards and Rakuten Advertising since June 2020. She is focused on elevating the brand and evolving the company into a first-stop shopping destination.
Upon joining the company in 2020, she developed an in-house creative group for promoting Rakuten's first Super Bowl campaign across digital channels and broadcasts.
With extensive experience in marketing, building and re-structuring teams, managing agencies, and driving high-impact measurable outcomes, she brings deep expertise in managing large teams and diverse brands.
She is also a former Vice President of the brand, creative, and communication, of Credit Karma based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She served there for over two years from October 2017 to March 2020.
Dana studied at Brentwood School (1988-1994) in Los Angeles, California. She later attended Duke University (1994-1998) and earned a BA in English and Public Policy.
Growing up, she was obsessed with news and wanted to become a news anchor. She used to beg her parents to let her stay up late to watch the local news and admired the inspirational female anchors such as Barbara Walters and Connie Chung.
She spent her whole childhood dreaming about being a news anchor.
But when she joined college and started taking journalism classes, she realized she hated being on camera, and the thing she loved most about the news was the storytelling.
She then joined writing and marketing classes and quickly learned that marketing was the perfect career for her. She spent 16 years at Electronics Arts (EA), making her way to Credit Karma and now Rakuten.
The Flagg Siblings Were Raised in California
Josh Flagg was born to his parents, Michael Flagg and Cindy Flagg, on August 20, 1985. He and his older sister were raised in Los Angeles, California.
Growing up in LA, the realtor attended a private school in the Brentwood section, Brentwood School. In 2003, he left the school and joined Beverly Hills High School and graduated the following year.
He comes from a family tree with deep philanthropic roots. His grandmother, Marjorie Platt, was a prominent Los Angeles social circuit member and a dedicated philanthropist.
Flagg is deeply attached to both sets of his grandparents -The Platts and The Flaggs.
Mother Cindy Flagg
Cindy was born to Marjorie and Herman Platt in 1948 in Los Angeles, California. She is the granddaughter of Benjamin Platt, an American philanthropist and the founder of Platt Music Corporation.
Her mother, Marjorie, was also a devoted philanthropist who, with her husband, supported many local Jewish charitable institutions, such as Sinai Temple, City of Hope, and American Jewish University (AJU).
Her father, Herman, was a key supporter and fundraiser for the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the City of Hope National Medical Center, the UCLA Foundation, and the Jewish Home for the Aging.
Cindy studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and received her degree in 1970. She attended Loyola Law School and later worked as an attorney in Century City at Greenberg, Weiss, Rosen, Fern, and Bernhard from 1981 until 1985.
She then joined Edith Flagg Inc as an in-house counsel and worked until 2000. She has one brother, Kenneth Platt, and three sisters, Barbara Platt, Susan Platt Baggley, and producer Nancy Platt Arent Jacoby.
Father Michael Flagg
Michael is the son of Edith Flagg, an Austrian-born American fashion designer and philanthropist. She married Hans Stein (Michael's father) in 1983 after moving to the Netherlands.
After the German invasion, she didn't leave the Netherlands instead took the identity of the deceased Lydia Voskuilen. Soon she became pregnant with her first child (Michael).
After giving birth, she hid the baby in a sanitarium and disguised as a nurse to visit him. Michael's father, Stein, was captured by Germans and sent to Auschwitz camp, where he was killed in 1944.
After his passing, Edith started working within the Dutch underground resistance where she met Erich Simon Flegenheimer, her second husband (later known as Eric Flagg). They married after the war.
Her spouse moved to the US while Edith and Michael stayed in Palestine. The mother and son later followed Eric to the US and while he worked in New York, the mother and son moved to San Francisco and lived with Han's parents.
She and Eric then moved to LA in 1949 with their son.
His Grandmother Edith Was His Biggest Inspiration
Josh Flagg grandmother Edith Flagg frequently appeared on Million Dollar Listing with her grandson. In the show, she offered business and life advice to the realtor.
His grandmother is notable for being the first importer of Polyester into the United States. She lived a life that is no less than an action novel.
She hid her identity, lost her husband, and fled to an Israeli kibbutz as a single mother.
Soon after moving to LA, with mere dollars in her pocket, she started importing Polyamine (a wrinkle-free form of Polyester). With that, a leading company "Edith Flagg of California, was born.
The company reportedly afforded her a whopping net worth of $100 million in 2012. "She was a pioneer," the real estate agent says in honor of his grandmother's business sense.
Sadly, she passed away of natural causes on August 13, 2014, in her penthouse in Century City. She was 94 years old and was buried at the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetry in Culver City, California.
