This year Met Gala is themed after the legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld. The benefit is held in honour of Karl’s legacy by celebrating the opening of his beauty line “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.

Karl was a fashion designer, photographer and creative director who worked with high-end fashion brands throughout his six-decade-long career.

Another iconic Chanel item designed by Karl is the Guitar, the multi-layered pearl necklace launched in 2006, and The Hula Hoop Bag launched in 2013. 

However, one of the most prominent designs by Karl is the ruffled pink gown from the Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2017. The design was showcased by newbie model Lily-Rose Depp.
