Dean told BBC Sport, "I went into the Premier League in 2000 when I was 31, 32, and you had tremendous, big personality players like the Keanes, individuals like that, Vieira, they were all around then."

Mike Dean is a professional football referee in England who works mainly in the Premier League. He is a Cheshire County Football Association member and lives in Heswall, Wirral.

Dean has overseen several noteworthy matches since his selection as a Select Group referee in 2000, including the FA Community Shield and the FA Cup, Football League Cup, and FA Trophy finals.
