Who Plays Fatima On The Chi? Actress L'lerrét Jazelle Talks Playing A Transgender Character On Season 5

In Season 5 of The Chi, L'lerrét Jazelle portrays journalist Fatima. Fatima is a local journalist who works hard for her community and isn't afraid to hold public authorities responsible in order to uncover the truth.

Along with L'lerret, this season also welcomes Kandi Burruss, La La Anthony, Nia Jervier, Carolyn Michelle Smith, and Antonyah Allen as special guests. "Save the date - @shothechi returning to the South Side June 24th on @showtime #TheChi," L'lerret said on her Instagram on May 4, 2022.

The Chi season 5 fans were a little dubious about the newbie Fatima, but she played the role fabulously.  

Showtime broadcasts the fifth season of The Chi on Sundays at 9:00 PM ET/PT. On Showtime Demand, new episodes are made available two days before they air.

"A local journalist who wants the best for her area and isn't afraid to bring politicians' feet to the fire to obtain the truth" is how Showtime portrays the character Fatima. 

The friendship between Trig (Luke James) and Fatima, a reporter and community activist played by L'lerrét Jazelle, is featured in the fifth season of The Chi. Fatima offers a dilemma for Trig: she's someone he finds appealing, but she's also someone he believes he can't be with, at least not in public, since she's trans.

They are aware that Trig is now trying to make a political run. It appears that because Trig is a well-liked character, the audience has developed strong feelings for him.

Trig appears to be aware of the dangers of dating a journalist who is also a politician, yet he still feels a connection to Fatima. Since she hasn't shown any clear indications that she's on a mission to eliminate Trig, viewers may be more likely to do the same for the time being. With that stated, Fatima has spoken with Trig about her concerns over his foray into politics. She went up to him first to see if he had a problem with her being a transwoman.

He basically informed her that he liked ladies and that because she was a woman, he didn't see an issue. Fatima seems receptive to the response, but she also made it plain that although she doesn't mind keeping their relationship a secret, she in no way wants to be anyone's secret. That may seem a little foreboding in terms of what is ahead for these two, but let's wait and see how things turn out. (As an aside, Lena Waithe and the show's creators continue to merit praise for their inclusive casting and storylines.)

L'lerrét Jazelle is 21 years old at the moment. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. She went to college in New Orleans, Louisiana, but now lives in Los Angeles.

The chi actor took a course in Women's Studies as addition to Chemistry and built a solid reputation in New Orleans for her commitment to social justice and advocacy, notably on favour of transwomen of colour.

In actuality, she had an appearance in Laverne Cox's 2014 documentary Laverne Cox Presents: "The T Word." To offer you the chance to hear Jazelle's remarks on her painful encounters with injustice as a transwoman and her drive to effect change.

Fatima is not Jazelle's first acting role in terms of her acting career. In her short acting career, the actress has already played the roles of Cynthia in 4400, Young Antonia in 9-1-1, and Sharon Cunningham in NCIS: Los Angeles.
