Interestingly, the series creator Kourtney Kang was born and raised in a biracial household in Hawaii, and she always wanted to do a show there. "I grew up watching Dogie Howser and I was a really big fan of it," she said.

The series features several mixed-race actors, such as Jason, who reflects Hawaii's demographic of Asians and Pacific Islanders.

As a Hawaiian native, the role of Kamealoha family patriarch Benny was meaningful for Scott Lee. He enjoys being around the local crew with fellow cast members from the Islands.

Kang is using her love of Hawaii, its people, and its culture to create a powerful, meaningful, and humorous Hawaiian-infused story.

In Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., the multicultural characters reflect their own style and fashion while highlighting their traditions. As we know, costumes communicate the details of each character's personality to the audience.

Michael Fong and Shanna Norton designed the costumes in Season 1 of the series. They helped artists transform into different and believable people on screen.

Peyton appears as the title character Lahela "Doogie" Kamealoha in the series. She is a 16-year-old University of Hawaii Medical School graduate.
