Does Newt Scamander aka Eddie Redmayne Have Autism In Real Life?

Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne in the "Fantastic Beasts" films, is on the autism spectrum. 

On the other hand, the actor does not have autism in real life.

Though fans have speculated about the character since the original film's release in 2016, Digital Spy asked the actor for thoughts of his own during an interview on Thursday.

After speaking with J.K. Rowling about Scamander's mannerisms before the first "Fantastic Beasts" film, Redmayne concluded that the character had Asperger's syndrome. 

Because autism wasn't recognized in the 1920s, he stated Scamander didn't have a diagnosis. Though some people use Asperger's as a name, it's no longer frequently used because it's now recognized as part of the autism spectrum.

In the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Newt Scamander made his first live-action appearance. He was, however, first mentioned in the Harry Potter movie.

Newt Scamander's name can be seen in the bottom right corner of the map when Harry first views it.

Even though the film takes place decades before the events of the Harry Potter books, Newt's story has many references to Harry's world.

Few people are aware that Newt Scamander made an appearance in one of the original films, which was released 12 years before the Fantastic Beasts film series.

In the movie, Newt Scamander married Porpentina Goldstein, an American witch, and they had at least one kid, possibly a son, together.

On the other hand, Redmayne, who plays Newt, is married to Hannah Bagshawe in real life. Iris, their daughter, was born in 2016, and Luke, their son, was born in 2018.
