What Illness Did Bernd Bransch Have? Former Footballer Dead At The Age Of 77

According to a statement released by his old club Halle, the East German captain died on Sunday at 77 following a prolonged illness.

 Bransch played 72 times for East Germany and twice received the title of East German Footballer of the Year.

In 1974, he guided the squad to their first World Cup finals appearance, which they won against the hosts, who went on to win the tournament.

In 1976, Bransch helped East Germany win Olympic gold; in 1972, he helped them win bronze.

His net worth was expected to be around $1 Million at the time of his demise.

Bransch began his sporting career with BSG Motor Halle-Süd when he was a child. In 1954, he joined the sports club, SC Chemie Halle.

Except for the 1973/74 season, when he played for FC Carl Zeiss Jena, Bransch spent his whole career with SC Chemie Halle and its successor, Hallescher FC Chemie.

He was named East German Footballer of the Year in 1968 and 1974.

Bransch competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics when his East German team won a bronze medal, and the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where he won a gold medal.

He was also a member of the 1974 FIFA World Cup team.

Bransch was the president of Hallescher FC from 1983 to 1990 and worked with youngsters and sports in Halle. He got jobless after the reunification and then worked as an insurance agent.

He was nominated vice president of Halle's municipal sports federation and Hallescher FC's sports consultant in 2007.

He had married at a very young age. As he was born in the era before the internet, we cannot find any social media handles of the player where he could share activities of his daily life.

He was a very private person. He hasn't revealed any information about his personal life to the media.
