Adieu Mon Fils Meaning In John Wick 4

Adieu Mon Fils meaning in John Wick 4 is Farewell, my son in the French language. Winston (Ian McShane) says goodbye in John's native tongue.

There are many other words and phrases in French to tell someone goodbye forever. But Adieu is not a goodbye to be taken lightly or used frequently. It has a sense of finality and is highly formal.

Be clear of using this word unless you never plan on meeting the other person again or one of you is on your deathbed.

The meaning of the word is more understandable from the song "Adieu" by Canadian singer Cœur de pirate. The single is about Cœur taking revenge on a cheating lover portrayed by Niels Schneider in the music video.

Au revoir is also a common French word to say goodbye. It means goodbye until we meet again. It generally refers to best wishes when someone leaves and is acceptable for both formal and informal situations.

In John Wick: Chapter 4 last scene, we see Wick seriously wounded and bleeding after an entire night of getting shot, kicked, punched, and run over by seemingly everyone in Paris.

Winston agrees to take the wounded assassin home. John partly walks down the steps of Sacre Coeur, settles down, speaks his wife's name for the last time, and passes away.

After that, we cut to New York, with the Bowyer and Winston are seen at Wick's grave where he's buried next to his beloved spouse, Helen. "Loving Husband," his gravestone reads, just as he wished earlier.

Winston stays behind, touches his grave, and says, "Farewell, my son," in Wick's native. He then walks away as the camera cranes up.

Before the face-off begins, de Gramont cheats by throwing an army of assassins at Wick. However, he fights his way through Paris to arrive at the location of the duel.

In the duel, Wick gets shot three times while his opponent is only shot twice. Just as he is down and about to lose consciousness, de Gramont sets Caine and his daughter free.

He clearly wants to steal the moment and claim Wick's death but Winston distracts him by saying he didn't shoot.

Then we see Wick gaining consciousness and saying "Consequences" right before shooting and killing an unsuspecting De Gramont. Following this, The Harbinger grants Wick and Caine their freedom from the High Table.

Winston is also reinstated as the manager of New York continental as agreed earlier.

Wick and Winston celebrate their victory by watching a beautiful sunrise and the former urges the latter to take him home. Walking down the staircase of Sacre-Coeur basilica.

He is seriously wounded and bleeding after his pistols-at-dawn duel with assassin Caine. After collapsing on the stairs, he reflects upon his life and marriage and peacefully succumbs to his injuries.

In the next scene, Winston and the Bowert King bid goodbye to Wick at a graveyard where he is buried next to his wife.

Is Winston John Wick's Father?

At the cemetery, Winston lays his hand on Wick's Tombstone and says "farewell, my son" in his native. A Ruska Roma tattoo is seen on his wrist.

So, does it suggest Winston is Wick's biological father? Most likely not because we already know that the assassin is an orphan. His Ruska Roma tattoo indicates both are from the same crime family.

Throughout each installment, there have been several clues suggesting Winston is Wick's father but nothing has been directly confirmed.

In Chapter 2, Winston shares with Wick that he and his father knew each other. The film also features a flashback of Wick's wedding, which Winston attends. The next franchise hints at some personal history between Winton and Wick's father.

Winston could likely be his adoptive father or just a father figure who has paternal affection for him. That would further explain why he is the only character in the film to call John "Jonathan."

Talking to Screenrant about the film, McShane, who portrays Winston, said, "It’s expanded, the relationships have got deeper, they’ve gotten better." "You understand more about the world," he added.
