Morant was born to father Tee and mother Jamie Morant in Dalzell, South Carolina. Both his parents were college athletes who let go of their dream after he was born. 

His mother, Jamie, was a point guard in her high school and played softball in college. On the other hand, his father played semi-professional basketball at Claflin University and was a high school classmate of Ray Allen.

Tee thought about going pro abroad after playing semi-professionally. However, his father gave up his athletic career and decided to stay home, becoming a barber after finding out Jamie was expecting Ja.

Along with buying tractor tires for him to hone jumping with a soft landing, Ja's father showed him how to execute step-back jump shots while they trained in their yard.

Ja Morant is 22 years old as he was born on August 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina, U.S. Weighing 174 pounds, he stands at a height of 6'3''. 

He participated in the Amateur Athletic Union circuit with South Carolina Hornets, a tiny, local team headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina.

Averaging 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists per game over the course of his final two seasons at Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina, he was awarded the Class 3A All-State Honors. 

Additionally, Morant graduated from high school as the three-time Most Valuable Player of the Region (MVP). He was a senior before he could dunk.
