Is The Way Home On Hallmark Based On A Book Or A True Story?

No, The Way Home on Hallmark is not based on a book. It is a fictional story of a family with three generations of mothers and daughters.
It marks the first original series of Hallmark in 2023 which debuted on Sunday, January 15 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. The series features three women who must come to terms with their family's distressing past.
This multi-generational saga about the lives of the Landry family women fills the hole left by Good Witch and Chesapeake Shores for the Hallmark fans.
This is comparatively darker than some Hallmark viewers may be expecting, even so, glares of humor have perfectly balanced the more serious moments. Talking more, it does involve time travel - different from iron-clad time-travel logic.
Is The Way Home On Hallmark Based On A Book?
The Way Home is not based on a book but is a fictional story. It tells the story of a family with complicated relationships and time travel.
Set in the small Canadian town of Port Haven, the drama introduces viewers to the 15-year-old daughter of Kat Landry, Alice, who finally meets her grandmother, Del.
The drama combines familiar Hallmark tropes with a touch of the supernatural. And while Alice is trying to adjust to her new life and navigate her parent's divorce, she finds a pond near her grandmother's farm that allows her to travel back.
She thinks of the opportunity to time-travel back to 1999, shortly before a life-changing event that changed the Landry family forever.
Fans Argue The Way Home Is Based On True Story
The Way Home is not based on a true story, especially with its time travel aspect.
Hallmark has created the new series in such a way that many viewers are convinced it is based on true-life events. Fans are all drawn to this extraordinary, unique plot of three generations of women who are haunted by the painful past.
Still, as the time-travel twist is involved in the series, we can say it is not based on actual events.
The team could have easily made an easier version of the series without time travel, using flashbacks and other tools to unveil the women's past wounds.
But the era-hopping scenes give the series some freedom to experiment, giving the vibes of some late 90s nostalgia. Back to the Future fans must know the potential of a plot that involves a teen running into younger versions of their parents.
As of now, it isn't clear to either audience or Alice how exactly the pond portal works. However, the opening sequence hints that the Landry women have been using the magical pond for centuries.
With the first four episodes available for review, it appears the rules governing the pond will come into clear focus in the coming episodes.
Andie McDowell And Sadie Laflamme Snow Shine In The Way Home
Cedar Cove star McDowell brings just the right mix of no-nonsense person and down-home warmth to Del Landry -mother to Kat and grandmother to Alice. After spending years coming to terms with extreme pain, her pain is still raw.
American actress Chyler Leigh took the role of Kat Landry Dhawan, Alice's mom, and Del's daughter. She portrays an overwhelmed woman trying to reconcile with her dear mother and parenting her daughter.
Rising star Sadie Laflamme-Snow portrays Alice Dhawan, a teenager who discovers she can time travel. She delivers a healthy amount of snotty teen attitude that her character shows to hide her more sensitive side.
Although the three Landry women serve as the core of the series, The Way Home makes room for some intriguing supporting actors, such as Evan Williams, Kateam O'Connor, Alex Hook, Jefferson Brown, and Al Mukadam, among others.
Kat is recently separated from her husband and has been further laid off from her job. Moreover, her teen daughter has been expelled from her private school in Minneapolis.
She then decides to meet her mom and heads back to Port Haven, Canada, with her daughter. The mother-daughter reunion sparks a decade-old family tragedy that resulted in estrangement between them.
Meanwhile, her young daughter is trying to cope with her new life in Port Haven when she finds that a pond near the farm allows her to travel back to 1999, shortly before the tragedy strikes the Landry family.
The Show's Sunday Premiere Started With A Scene From Port Haven
Season 1 Episode 1 of the Hallmark series expands the magic of Good Witch and the touch of the Chesapeake Shores family, giving viewers perfect flashes of past projects.
Episode 1
The first episode starts with a scene in Port Haven, where a group of people is running behind a woman believing she is a witch. Before they could catch the young woman, she chants something mysterious and jumps into the water.
Cut to the present time in Minneapolis, Kat and her former husband, Brady, are struggling with their rebellious daughter Alice, who pulls the fire alarm at the school's talent show and gives a party at home.
Meantime, she is fired from her newspaper job and suddenly received a letter from her estranged mom asking her to come home. She finds it a perfect opportunity to begin a new life and heads to Port Haven with her daughter.
There the mother-daughter duo meets Elliot (now the high school's science teacher), Kat's neighbor, and best friend before they lost touch -he is also divorced.
When the young girl ditches the first day of school, her mother tracks her down and says her dad's new girlfriend is moving and she can't go and live with him. Furious Alice runs off to the pond near the farm, where she tosses the bracelet her father gave her mom.
And as she reaches for it to retrieve it, she falls into the water and is pulled out by her teen mom in 1999.
Episode 2
In the second episode titled "Scar Tissue" Kat thinks of publishing a book on the disappearance of her little brother, Jacob, over two decades ago. But her mom tries to close the past chapter and move on.
While everything is going on, Alice starts to learn how the pond works with the help of Elliot, with an increasing desire to travel back in time. She wants to stay and know more about her family, including the ones who are gone.
Her mother then sees her daughter looking at a family heirloom that starts with the farmer's almanac in 1814, which consists of all the information about their family.
