Just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, police said they responded to a complaint of two youths trapped in the sand.

They were successful in rescuing the 17-year-old girl and treating her on the spot.

However, her brother, Levy Caverley, passed away. Officials were still searching for Caverley's remains as of Tuesday evening.

Moreover, according to Toms River police, the tragedy occurred on an ocean-facing beach on a wide barrier island that spans down the New Jersey shore.
