Fabio was seriously injured during the Tour of Poland in 2020 after which he underwent several surgeries.

The cyclist was just a few meters away from finishing the 1st stage when Dylan Groenewegen drifted away from his line and this forced Fabio towards the frail barriers.

As a result of hitting at more than 80 km/hr, the barriers broke off and he landed on the UCI commissaire. His ribs and teeth were broken and he had to go through multiple surgeries. 

Jakobsen was severely injured with brain trauma, upper respiratory tract damage, broken palate, lung contusion, and many others. He was in a medically induced coma after the horrific incident. 

The before and after accident pictures of Jakobsen caught the attention of the public. He had to do a teeth implant as he had lost his ten teeth during the collision.

The doctors had to do his upper and lower jaw surgery and his face drastically changed afterward. 

On August 7, 2022, the organizers updated people about Fabio's health. They announced that he was in a good condition and will be back any time soon. 

The Dutchman Fabio was born on August 31, 1996, which makes his current age 25. 

He started his professional cycling career in 2018 at the age of 22 at the Tour of Oman. Currently, he is associated with UCI WorldTeam Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team.

Before this, he used to play for the Dutch UCI team SEG Racing from 2015 to 2017. 

Fabio is a Dutch professional cyclist who is famous for racing in UCI. His Wikipedia page has lots of information about his career and life. 

He won the final and one other stage during the 2019 Vuelta a Espana that was organized in Madrid. He earned his first Grand Tour jersey during the 2021 Vuelta when he won stages four, eight, and sixteen. 

Jakobsen won the award for the Comeback Rider of the Year award by CyclingNewsForum after his incredible comeback despite multiple injuries and surgeries.
