The veteran and most celebrated actor of Hollywood, Viggo Mortensen is a well-known name in the movie industry. He has ruled the showbiz with his commendable performances in notable amount of films. The hot and handsome with multi talents has captivated the audience with his retrospective roles and portrayals of diverse character on screen. He started his career from 1990, debuting with the movie Witness and had no turning back as his success continued from notable performances as in The Indian Runner, The Lord of The Rings franchise, A Walk to the Moon, 28 Days to name the few. Apart from acting, he is a well-praised musician, poet, painter and photographer.

 

Viggo Peter Mortensen, Jr. felt the first verse of life in New York City, New York of United States of America. He was born to Grace Mortensen and Viggo Peter Mortensen, Sr. from different backgrounds and nationality. His mother belonged from America and is his father was from Denmark.  He holds dyal nationality of America and Denmark. His early childhood was spent travelling places until he finally resided in places like Cordoba, Chaco and Buenos Aires of Argentina where he learnt Spanish and had his early education. It was the divorce of his parents that made his way to settle in New York with his mother. He attended Watertown High School based in Watertown of New York. He graduated in Spanish studies and Politics from St. Lawrence University based in Canton, New York in 1980. His initially days of struggle had its terms with hardship and his working experiences were varied from being a truck driver to flower vendor. He had his part of struggle until he finally grew his ability as an actor and pursued a career from it.

 

His acting career eventually started from theaters and his recognizable presence made him a sought after actor making his way to debut for the film called Witness, directed by Peter Weir. His other movie ventures were either deleted or edited out of the movie and is presence was not felt until he landed a role in Bent, which made him a recipient of Dramalogue Critics’ Award. He portrayed a gay, homosexual prisoner and was highly praised for his performance. He later appeared in several movies in minor roles behind the lead actors and casting himself as a supporting lead in movies like The Portrait of a Lady, Young Guns II, Prison, The Indian Runner, Carlito’s Way, Crimson Tide, Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Daylight, A Walk in the Moon, The Reflecting Skin, The Passion of Darkly Noon, A Perfect Murder, Psycho, 28 days and The Prophecy to name the few.

 

His most acclaimed performance came from G. I. Jane and in 1999, Peter Jackson approached him to play Aragorn for his movie The Lord of the Rings franchise. He was not the first choice for the role but he bagged the role due his son’s interest in the novel from which the movie was based. The movie was a grand hit and his stardom had reached a higher level as he portrayed the king in the trilogy and was well appreciated and accolade. He also starred in another successful movie called Hidalgo released in 2004 where he portrayed a retired army who competes in a horse running competition somewhere in Arabia. His outstanding performances in these movies brought him the fame he was worth and his stardom was skyrocketing. He later starred in A History of Violence, which released in 2005 and he landed a nomination for Best actor from Satellite award. The other major ventures where he was cast as a lead included Alartise a Spanish movie in 2006, Eastern Promises in 2007 for which he even won a British Independent Film Award, Reclaiming The Blade, The People Speak, The Road, A Dangerous Method in 2009.

 

His other notable creations include Ten Last Night published in 1993, Recent forgeries in 1998, for which he was the profound poet. He also has written books like Errant Vine published in 2000 and collection of photographs, paintings and poetry like Hole in the Sun, Sign Language, Coincidence of Memory, 45301, Miyelo, The Horse is Good, Linger, Skovbo to name the few among others. His multi talented venture in acting, photography and literature has garnered him profound fame and a net worth to set his standards as a star.

 

Viggo Mortensen has married and divorced with his wife Exene Cervenka and the couple has a son Henry Blake Mortensen.
