Mindy Kaling was born as Vera Mindy Chokalingam on June 24, 1979. Mindy Kaling is her professional name. She is famous for her multi-dimensional talent in acting, comedy, writing and producing. She is highly recognized for her role on the NBC sitcom The Office as Kelly Kapoor. Mindy has written, produced and directed many episodes of the sitcom. Kaling was born to Hindu parents (Tamil father and Bengali mother) who come from India. Her birth place is Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her mother Swati Roysircar was a gynecologist and her father Avu is an architect by profession. She was named Mindy when she was still in her mother’s womb. At the time, her parents were staying in Nigeria and were planning to move to United States. They heard and liked the name American name Mindy from the TV show Mork & Mindy. The first name Vera of her original name refers to the incarnation of a Hindu goddess. Mindy attended Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Massachusetts from where graduated in 1997. After the high school, she went to Dartmouth College from where she graduated with Bachelors in Playwriting in 2001.
