When Did Alonzo Mourning Get A Kidney Transplant?

Alonzo Mourning got a kidney transplant in 2003, three years after getting diagnosed with kidney disease.

He kept playing even after the diagnosis but it got worse in a few years' time.

So in 2003, when his father relayed the message about Alonzo getting retired due to a kidney problem, it was Mourning's cousin, Cooper, who stepped in.

Although the Marine officer had never seen his cousin in 25 years, he decided to help the athlete with a kidney donation.

After he was deemed suitable, Cooper gave his left kidney to Mourning.

Following the transplant, he continued playing until he hanged up his boots in 2008.
